Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Rotary District 7930 RYLA Co-Chairs Jim Babbin and Evan Diamond distributed literature and gave a presentation on this year's program.  One of the more significant changes is that this year, sophomores can be chosen for the Award as well as juniors.  This change was made in response to concerns about school activities that are preventing many juniors from participating.

RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth. The program demonstrates Rotary’s respect and concern for youth by providing an effective training experience for potential leaders, encouraging leadership of youth by youth, and publicly recognizing young people who serve their communities.

Rotary District 7930 Assistant Governor Peter Majane spoke at the RYLA Kickoff Meeting on Saturday, January 11 from 10:00AM-1:00PM at Kitty's in North Reading.  Peter spoke of his personal experiences with RYLA and encouraged all Clubs in the District to fully participate in this year's program.

Stoneham Rotarians Gerry DeViller who is serving as this year's RYLA Chair, Dennis O'Hara, and Dave Gardner attended the Kickoff meeting.  After the presentations and question-and-answer session, attendees were served a buffet lunch.

If you are interested in helping to make a difference in the lives of Stoneham high school students, consider serving on the RYLA committee.  The time commitment is minimal, and you'll be helping identify and cultivate the young leaders in Stoneham.  Contact Gerry at gerry@bgcstoneham.org to volunteer.
