Destination Unknown Crowned 2013 Stoneham Star as

Rotary Club of Stoneham’s fifth annual event raised over $3000


The Rotary Club of Stoneham raised over $3,000 from the Fifth Annual Stoneham Star Talent Show on Tuesday, June 11 at the Stoneham Theatre.  
 

The Club chose The Boys and Girls Club of Stoneham as the beneficiary of this year’s event for to support the renovation of the club’s kitchen.  This year’s auditions were very competitive with the final fifteen including vocalists, dancers, a band, guitarists, and a harpist on the Stoneham Theatre stage in front of family, friends, neighbors, and the Stoneham community. 

 

This year’s final three were: first place and this year’s Stoneham Star, the band Destination Unknown with members Ricky Kiernan, Cameron Miele, Liam Frieswick and Jacob Kravits, second place, singer/guitarist Maya Colman, and a tie for third place, singer Emily Pinto and dancers Dasha Smolina and Sam Pointon.  This year’s audience award for the most votes for the audience was the harpist Isabella Pinto.  The judges were Annie Kerins, an actor who portrayed Alice in Stoneham Theatre’s production of  “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, has appeared Off-Broadway at TheatreRow Studios and appeared in national tours with Theatreworks, USA;  Dennis O’Hara, chairman of the Stoneham Cultural Council and former marketing director for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra; and Mark Linehan a Boston based professional singer, dancer and actor who appears as an SS Guard in Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio, as a stunt performer in Surrogates starring Bruce Willis, and as an extra in Ted starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis.  Randy Perillo co-founder of The Know Our Town Video Network, was back to host for the fifth year.

 

The club was very fortunate to have the following sponsors: Pizzarello and Silvestro Family Dentistry for donating the $1000 grand prize, MELD Center, Inc. for donating the $300 second place and two $200 third place prizes, Stoneham Theatre and Weylin Symes and David Brown for all of their assistance in hosting the event, Stoneham TV for hosting auditions, purchasing the competition's trophies, and technical support by George Manfra, Brian Albertson, Jesse Manfra, Jonathan Barbato and Heather Gately during the Finals, David Gardner and Boyds Direct for printing and design of all promotional materials, Sharon Iovanni for donation of gifts for the judges and host and for all of the local businesses who placed an advertisement in this year’s program booklet.
